Third year Mini-project by Amey D., Shriram, Amey B. and me!

A three-dimensional wireless mouse, using ultrasonic sensors for distance measurement. This mouse has been built keeping in mind the requirements of the 3 dimensional softwares. Uses the principle of GPS (trilateration) to find the three co-ordinates of the mouse. The GUI for the project included a “Globe viewer” interface and three-dimensional drawing using MATLAB platform. The mouse can act as a normal 2D mouse as well, completely replacing the normal mouse.

The transmitter has an ultrasonic transmitter and and IR transmitter. There are four buttons on the mouse - left click, right click, enable/disable and mode select. The status of these buttons is transmitted serially by the IR link. The IR signal also triggers the counter for timer. The ultrasonic pulse is transmitted alongwith the IR. Since ultrasonic pulse travels much slowly (speed of sound), it is received at the three ultrasonic receiver post at different intervals of time. The micrcontroller on the receiver side measures these three times giving the distances of the mouse from each of the three towers. Trilateration takes over henceforth giving the three co-ordinates.
